The Police
In the early days of ancient Egypt, guards were sometimes hired by the rich to guard their tomb, their children, and their possessions. It was not until the era of the New Kingdom that Egypt began having an organized police force.
The police had the regular job of protecting property and people. The police might deliver an important message to a government official. They might also come with tax collectors to make sure peasants paid their tax on time.
A common assignment for a policeman was to patrol the marketplaces to stop thieves.
Catching criminals and collecting evidence for trials was also important and done mostly by the police.
